Joining Al for this special Rochester Lilac Festival performance will be his bandmates from the original Roomful of Blues circa 1973 Greg Piccolo and Doug James. Should be quite a swingin’ party! Pianist and singer; arranger and co-founder of “Roomful of Blues” – the renowned American jump band nominated for two Grammy Awards while he was with them. After 16 years with Roomful, relocated to Europe in 1984, and back home to the US in 2010. Strongly influenced by the music of Big Joe Turner, Copley’s solo style spans several genres and defies categorisation, including (but certainly not limited to) swing, boogie-woogie and barrelhouse. Live performances are characterised by their energy and Copley’s acrobatic approach to piano performance, in the style of Jerry Lee Lewis.
